The fruit of the jackfruit tree, a tree probably originally from the region between India and Malaysia. The jackfruit is a close relative of the breadfruit tree. Jackfruit are divided into two groups: those with soft, juicy and sweet flesh and the varieties with firm flesh that are less juicy and not as sweet. The white or yellowish flesh becomes a golden yellow when mature. It holds numerous large white seeds. The fertilized flowers are edible. Jackfruit continues to ripen after picking.
